Most of the photos below were shot under natural settings in 1997. Lutfen fotograf kullanmak icin siteye yazip izin aliniz.
Most of  the pictures below were taken in the villages when the flocks were not out for grazing. These are all first class working dogs. I placed the photos without any aesthetical concern. As the native sheep and goats flocks and cattle herds are being replaced with government initiated new breeds that I would question the success of their programmes regarding the performance and the quality of the produce. In addition to that media has been pushing the publicity of Kangal Dog, which has detrimental effects on the local dogs.

It is apparent that without the flocks and traditional sheep and goat husbandary and healthy grazing land in addition to the ban on flocks even near the forests will make these dogs obselete. The wolf and bear populations along with deer have already disappeared in the Western coast of Turkey and decreasing in general all over the country. Government or backyard breeding of these dogs will ruin them in five generations. One can easily see the decreasing quality of the Kangal dogs in the breeding stations,  these stations work like chicken incubators disregarding the temperament and the strength of the dogs. Neither a good veterinarian nor a government regulated programme will ever be a match for an experienced shepherd in his natural setting at breeding and improving these dogs. These dogs are already in the process of civilisation! in the U.S.A. and Europe, which is another beginning of the end for them, because could anyone dare to compare the quality of German Shepherd Dogs in Germany to the ones in other countries?

Bu itlerin tamami is yaptiklari icin hayattalar, goruntuleri idealleri tatmin ettigi icin degil. Koylerde ortalama it hayati suresi bes yil olup, doga eniklerin %90’i iki yasini goremezler. Koy cikisli Kangal ile, ithane cikisli Kangal agirlik farklarini merak edenler Ibrahim Kayis, Dogan Kartay ya da Murat Ilgaz’a danisabilirler. Ala Kaba (red and white long coated) YSD. This male was the shepherd Sinasi Cetiner's most favourite dog in terms of function.

Boz Kaba (grey long coated) YSD. Western Anatolia.

Akkus/Akbas/Akit Kaba (white long coated) Yoruk. Out of 42 same type dogs in this particular vilage five of them were white dogs. Only one white dog had short coat. Denizli. Bu resim bu siteden izin alinmadan, calindi ve su anda saf irk Akbas olarak kullanilmakta.

Sari Ala (yelow and white long coated) YSD. Afyon

Boz Kaba (grey long coated) YSD. I have seen this dog with the sheep flock. He was extremely fast and impressive at covering the flock size of five hundred. Cal, Denizli

Kizil Sut Kirik (red cream short coated) YSD. Afyon

Demir Kiri Boz Kirik and Kara Kaba (steel short coated and black long coated) YSD. These dogs are two of the six dogs. They guard 2000 sheep.

Sari Kirik (yellow short coated) YSD in Civril. This is not a Kangal. I have seen similar dogs in the same region in 1974. This kind of YSDs can be found in Konya as well. Civril, Denizli

Boz Kaba (grey long coated) YSD. Afyon.

Kirli Sari Kirik (dirty yellow short coated) YSD. this is definitely not a Kangal. Note the muzzle type. This are extremely sharp dogs.

Kara Kafkas Kaba ( black long coated) Caucasian. This bitch is in the Kackar Mountains and she is heavily coated. When this photo was taken in September, it had already started snowing.

Kizil Yari Kaba (red semi long coated) Caucasian. He is a goat shepherd.

Ogese/Ivese Ewe with her lamb. Recently it is replacing local Capar Sheep in Denizli region, which is a Karakul variation. Ogese is an improved breed from South East Turkey. I have also seen the same local stock replacement trend in Asagibeycayir Village/Kayseri in 1997.

Local Black Goats in Seferihisar can be seen all over Turkey. New crosses with Saanen breed and forestery regulation will probably put an end to the presence of the native Goats. Their numbers are already declining sharply. Their hardiness and the quality of their milk is unbeateable.

Sari Kaba (yellow long coated) female YSD in Decatur, Texas from Denizli.

Caucasian Puppies from Sarikamis/ Turkey in 1988 by Vet. Murat Ilgaz. In order to describe a species with a certain name, one needs a sophisticated study that covers a wide range of area with plenty of data. Anatolian Caucasians are still being studied by us, and there is still a long way to go.

Two short coated YSDs in Cokelez Mountain patroling the pasture.

Denizli Karabas.

A 5 months old male Caucasian in Sarikamis, Kars 1988 by DVM Murat Ilgaz. Southern Caucasian Dogs were reported under the name "Kars" by Nelson in 1996 for the first time.
